Playground Folder

Introduction

The Playground Folder is the sandbox environment where you are free to create, edit, and click together a dashboard or alert. As with all Sandbox environments though, this is a temporary development environment. You can build, discuss and collaborate without hurdles, but all dashboards and alerts that are used in production must be committed to the main branch of this project.

Rotation

To prevent cluttering of our Grafana environment and temporary assets turning into long term, production dependencies, the Playground is rotated on a bi-weekly schedule. Rotation means that the entire folder will be deleted, along with all the contents (dashboards & alerts). Every two weeks we will start with a clean-sheet. Rotation occurs around noon on Sundays, outside working-hours. Next rotation time can be found in the folder name:

Please make sure to store your dashboards in Git before the rotation, to prevent any loss of work.

Permissions model

Folder permissions for the Playground are arranged differently as compoared to the rest of the folders. In the Playground, every user, also anonymous users, has edit permissions (permission level 2). For every other folder in Grafana, anonymous users only have viewer permissions.
